Pedal to the metal - Cotterill Civils 100km Bikeathlon 2023

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

At Cotterills, we love to give back to our local community - especially if it involves pulling together as a team to do something fun and challenging! This week we completed a 100 km bikeathlon in aid of Rainbows Children's Hospice, and what a challenge it was!

We set ourselves the goal of cycling 100 kilometres over the course of two days - and taught ourselves a valuable lesson about aiming higher! By the end of the two days cycling, we’d completed an extraordinary 280 km! More importantly, we smashed our fundraising goal of £500, and ended up raising a whopping £1010! It really is extraordinary how much our team can achieve when we work together, and breaking a large amount into small bite size pieces allowed everyone to share the glory.

It was an extremely warm and humid two days, making the thirty minute sessions seem more like two hours! We had plenty of water on hand, as well as a lot of 80’s music and moral support from the team keeping us all going. This challenge was far from easy, and there were many times where the support and encouragement from colleagues was the only thing getting the riders through. However, when we remembered the cause that the event was for, pedalling suddenly became much easier.

It wasn’t without a healthy bit of competition though! Our very own Andy Cotterill stormed ahead as the fastest cyclist, with his son Tim coming a close second, and daughter Imi on their heels.

The money raised will allow Rainbows to continue their fantastic work with children, young people and families through incredibly difficult times.

A little bit about Rainbows

This charity is close to our hearts at Cotterills, as our very own service engineer’s partner Emily is one of the heroes who works for Rainbows and provides these services for young people across the Midlands.
