It's been a year since we launched our apprenticeship scheme and it's proven to be a fantastic success. With a shortage of construction resource available in the UK, apprenticeships are a great way to grow talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.
In the last year we've taken on two apprentices and they've proven to be a fantastic investment. One working in our construction team and the other as a service engineer for our planned services.
Apprenticeships are a common path for people coming out of school, acting as a popular alternative to A-levels and degrees. Being able to learn on the job and get firsthand experience often puts people ahead of their peers who attend university to get a degree, but ultimately have no real world experience.
Andy Cotterill, MD of Cotterill Contractors, commented: "We've been delighted with our apprentices. I'd recommend taking part in this scheme to any construction company, especially as it enables you to mould your resource into the ideal worker for your company, rather than hiring someone that has a different style of working to you."
